Manabu Yamaguchi
千葉県生まれ、東京都在住。
2005年頃よりイラストレーションを描きはじめ、2007年から3年間、イラストレーション青山塾ドローイング科でイラストレーター井筒啓之、作田えつ子の指導を受ける。
2008年、オイルパステルを用いた作品でdigmeout 2008選出。その後アクリル絵の具をメインの画材に変え、分割された背景を背にした人物のポートレートを中心に描く。90年代のヒップホップや現代のストリートの影響を受け続け、描かれる人物、特に若者は、孤独感やふてぶてしさを漂わせる。
Born in Chiba, Japan. Resides in Tokyo.
Manabu Yamaguchi began creating illustrations around 2005. In 2007
he attended classes at Illustration Aoyamajuku, where he learned the fundamentals of illustration from Hiroyuki Izutsu and Etsuko Sakuta for three years.
In 2008, Yamaguchi was accepted in the digmeout 2008 competition for his
paintings in oil pastel. After switching his main media to acrylic,
he has been developing his new style in which his figures stand in stark contrast to their respective backgrounds. Strongly inspired by 90s hip hop and street culture, his work
evokes feelings of both disenchantment and loneliness.
